Biography: Alice Levine is a cellist, educator, and song writer. She was raised in Roslyn Heights, NY and now lives in Watchung, NJ with her family. She graduated from Manhattan School of Music with her Bachelor of Music and Indiana University's Jacobs School of Music (IU) with her Master of Music. Her primary cello teachers were Georgiy Ginovker(Principal Cellist of the Leningrad Philharmonic, Russia), David Geber(American String Quartet) Julia Lichten(Orpheus Chamber Orchestra), Richard Aaron and Eric Kim. She attended the Aaron Copland School of Music at CUNY Queens College to do post-graduate studies in Music Education. She also completed her long term Suzuki Pedagogy training at The School for Strings in New York City. She was invited to play in the finals for the Chicago Symphony Orchestra. She studied chamber music with Cliff Colnot, Dan Avshalamov, Peter Winograd, Alex Kerr, Charles Neidich, Marc Silverman, and Wolfram Kessel.
Alice integrates philosophies from various methodologies and believes that the best way to teach is to cater to the individual's needs. At IU, Alice was a recipient of the Artistic Excellence Award and Eva Heinetz Outstanding Cellist Award, a scholarship awarded and sponsored by legendary cellist Janos Starker. She also served as faculty at Indiana University Pre-College, Indiana University Summer String Academy, and minored in String Pedagogy with Mimi Zweig, the former teacher of Joshua Bell.
Alice has written with grammy nominated composer/arranger, Danny Rivera, writing songs of the jazz/dubstep/electro-pop genre. As a cellist, Alice has participated in festivals such as Aspen, Tanglewood, Lincoln Center Out of Doors and at the LIU Post Chamber Music Festival where she has coached chamber music and coordinates Festival Alumni Concerts during the Festival. As a classical musician, she has performed with members of The Pierrot Consort and Emerson String Quartet. In the genres of folk, rock, and heavy metal, Alice has performed with bands such as Resolution 15, Air Traffic Controller, and Delta Rae. In addition to maintaining a private studio, Alice has taught at Stuyvesant High School, Jacob August Riis Middle School, Brooklyn Conservatory of Music, Music Institute of Long Island, and with World Youth Alliance Chamber Orchestra, an orchestra affiliated with the United Nations comprised of young musicians from Manhattan School of Music Pre-College and Juilliard Pre-College.
